Chapter 8 · Conservation and Dynamics of the Universe Equation

8.1 Classical Sources

“The Dharma Realm is perfectly interfused, without increase or decrease.” — Avataṃsaka Sutra

“Neither arising nor ceasing, neither pure nor impure, neither increasing nor decreasing.” — Heart Sutra

“Thought after thought does not abide; in each instant there is arising and ceasing.” — Avataṃsaka Sutra

“All dharmas flow and change, arising and ceasing without rest.” — Awakening of Faith

8.2 Modern Interpretation

The sutras state two seemingly opposite facts:

In modern language:

The total “energy” of the Dharma Realm is conserved, while the distribution of appearance is constantly changing.

This chapter unifies:

8.3 Conservation Structure of the Universe Equation

The Universe Equation:

0 = 1 + T(Φ(t))

can be read as a conservation law:

1 = −T(Φ(t))

Meaning:

The luminosity constant (1) is exactly balanced by the total effect of interdependence and manifestation.

We can write a symbolic “energy balance”:

E_total = E_emptiness + E_luminosity + E_interdependence + E_phenomena = 0

This expresses:

The total “energy” of the Dharma Realm is zero — perfect balance, no increase, no decrease.

8.4 Dynamics of the Frequency Field Φ(t)

Conservation alone does not describe how the world changes.
Dynamics is encoded in the evolution of the frequency field Φ(t).

The key quantity is:

dΦ/dt

Taking the time derivative of the Universe Equation:

0 = d/dt [1 + T(Φ(t))]

Since 1 is constant:

0 = T(dΦ/dt)

Thus:

dΦ/dt ∈ ker(T)

Meaning:

The evolution of the frequency field must preserve the global interdependence structure T.

The world can change, but the law of interdependence cannot be violated.

8.5 Huayan Schrödinger-Type Equation

We can write the evolution of Φ(t) as:

dΦ/dt = i·2πF·Φ

or in a more familiar form:

i dΦ/dt = H_dharmadhatu Φ

where H_dharmadhatu is the “Hamiltonian of the Dharma Realm.”

Its properties:

Dynamics = phase evolution of frequencies + invariance of the Dharma Realm structure.

8.7 Huayan Summary (Poetic Closure)

The ground does not increase,
the ground does not decrease;
thus all phenomena are without limit.

The function does not diminish,
the function does not exhaust;
thus the world is ever new.

Energy neither arises nor ceases;
appearance follows conditions and seems to come and go.

The Dharma Realm is without increase or decrease;
all dharmas flow and change without rest.

Motion that is not motion —
the turning of frequencies.
Stillness that is not stillness —
the body of the Dharma Realm.

In perfect balance, all things move;
in constant movement, balance is never lost.
